INTOXICATED IN CAR
PROSECUTION AT OTAHUHU. Charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car, Narsay Jaram appeared before Messrs. C. R. Petrie and T. C. P. Whitley, J.P., in the Otahuhu Police. Court yesterday afternoon and pleaded guilty. * . Sergeant Cahill said accused was a draper in Whakatane and made periodical trips between -Whakatane and Auckland. The case was not a bad one. Accused said he had been driving for 15 years and that it was his first offence and asked the Bench to take a lenient view. Mr. Petrie: The Courts are looking with extreme disfavour on this type of offences and the penalty must be such as to bring home to you the seriousness of this charge, "fou will be convicted, but" in view of the fact that your car is necessary to. you in your business, your license will- only be endorsed. You will be fined £10, costs 12/ G. The Bench refused accused's appeal for a reduction of the fine, but gave him [two weeks to pay.
