GRAPES VERY CHEAP. POOR QTJAJA.TT PEACHES, PUMPKINS PLENTIFUL. • Prices for hothouse grapes are exceptionally low, as the quality of many lines is poor, while there is also a plentiful supply of Te Kauwhata grapes, which many peoplo prefer. A sudden flood of apples, particularly of the Delicious variety, has resulted in a considerable fall in prices in the past two days. Most of the peaches are of poor quality and these meet with little demand, though good quality dessert lines are selling well. Large quantities of mushrooms have arrived this week and prices generally are consequently lower, though, varying widely according to the quality and condition of the offerings. There is a fairly good demand for good quality dessert pears. Slightly larger quantities of tomatoes were available to-day and prices dropped slightly.

Quotations are: —

Apples: Delicious, 2/ to 3/ per case; Gravenstein, 4/ to 6/0; Munroes, 2/6 to 3/; Mobbs Royal, 2/ to 2/0; Cox's Orange, 4/ to 8/. Pears: Bon Chretien, 7/6 to 9/6; Bon Jersey, 7/0 to 9/0. Passions: 2/6 to 4/0. Peaches: Choice, in crates, 5/ to 8/; Late Reds, in cases, 2/ to 3/6; Golden Queen, 1/9 to 6/. Cape gooseberries: Id to 2%d per lb. Plums: Satsumas, 2/ to 3/ per case; choice dessert, 4/ to 6/. Oranges: Californian, 27/6 to 35/; Jamaican, 25/ to 32/. Lemons: Cured, 10/ to 14/; others, 6/ to 9/. Tomatoes: Hutt, 3/ to 5/6; local choice, ripe, G/ to 9/; others. 9d to 2/. Pines: Queensland, 14/ to 16/. Grapes: To Kauwhata, 5/ to 7/; hothouse, Hamburg, 3d to Sd per lb; Colman.lOd to lid. Blackberries: 4d to 5d a chip.

Vegetables. The heavy rains have resulted in the arrival of much heavier supplies of root vegetables, the prices of which have dropped accordingly, while _ water and citrus melons are also selling cheaply. Heavy supplies of pumpkins are now arriving and are fetching much lower prices than they did last week. There is a keen demand for cabbage, green peas, celery and cauliflower. Quotations are: — Potatoes, 3/ to 6/6 per bag; swedes. 2/ to 4/; oi ions, 4/ to 6/; kumaras, 4/6 to 7/6; cabbages, 7/ to 12/6 per sack; on benches, 3/ to 5/6 per dozen; cauliflowers, 6/ to 9/ per sack; pumpkins, Red Warren, 3/ to 7/ per sack; Best Crown, 8/ to 14/ per cwt; cucumbers, 9d to 2/3 per dozen; carrots. 9d to 1/6; parsnips. 9d to 1/; beet, 6d to 9d: turnips, 6d; radish. 6d to 9d; spring onions, 1/ to 2/ per bundle; spinach, 9d to 1/6 per dozen; leeks, 2%d to 3d per bundle; green peas, 6/ (o 11/ per bag; French beans, 4/ to 10/; Brussels sprouts, 3d to 4d per lb; marrows, 1/ to 3/ per dozen; water melons. 2d to 6d each; citron melons, 3d to Od; lettuce, 2/ to 8/ per case; celery, cooking, 9d to 1/3 per bundle; dessert, 2/ to 3/; rhubarb, 1/ to 1/0 per dozen.

Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was heavy, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain unaltered. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/6 to 4/6 each; not prime. 2/ upwards; light breeds, prime, 1/0 to 2/9: not prime, 9d upwards. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 2/0; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/9 to 2/6; light breeds, 1/ to 1/6. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/ to 4/6; smaller, 1/0 upwards; light breeds, best, 3/ to 4/6; smaller. 1/6 upwards. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/6 to 2/0; smaller, 9d upwards; old, 1/ to 1/6. Ducks: Young, 2/ to 3/; old. 1/ to 1/6. Turkey hens: 4/ to 1/; gobblers, 8/ to 17/6.

Butter and Eggs. p, KS «_Hcn: First grade, 1/5% per dozen; B grade, 1/2%; ? grade. 10V6d. Duck eggs: First grade, 1/4%; B grade, 1/3%; C grade, 1/1%. Farmers' butter is quoted at 7d to 9d per lb.
