"LECHEROUS" KING.

Henry VIII. Castigated in Papal Decree. CANONISING MARTYRS. (Received 2 p.m.) VATICAN CITY, February 10. In the presence of Pope Pius XI., the preliminary decrees were' read in connection with the forthcoming canonisation of the English martyrs, Sir Thomas More and John Fisher, who were slain in the reign of King Henry VIII. The decrees stated that the persecutions of the lGth century began owing to the lecherous nature of Henry VIII., who was unable to obtain from the Pope, the custodian of the indissoluble tie of matrimony, the divorce for which he lusted. Therefore he proclaimed himself in anger the head of the .Church inEngland in order to proceed by his own authority to a second sacrilegious marriage. The Popo recounted at length the history of ti;«i martyrs and expressed pleasure at their approaching canonisation.
