THE ROYAL ARMS.
MAY BE ALTERED. MISSING WELSH DRAGON. WHAT IT WOULD MEAN ABROAD. (Spcqjal by Air Mail.) LOXDOX, 'January 11). The Royal Arms of Great Britain may be altered. Carnarvon Castle is to be the scene in May of a strictly Welsh celebration, of the King's silver jubilee. The organisation of this festival has reawakened the
old Welsh demand for the incorporation of the Red Dragon of Wales in the Royal Arms. Welshmen are to submit a petition to the Throne. • Scotland has its Lion and Ireland its Harp quartered on the Royal Shield, and England is twice represented by her Three Lions, and Wales wants one of these quarters. The immense expense tills would involve has to be considered. Every little island colony of the Empire would have to alter, its notepaper, and embassies and consulates abroad would have to scrap their official seals. Palaces, warships, messes, forts, vice-regal and gn benii"tonal residences. and even regimental drums, would all be involved in the change. The last time the Royal Arms .were altered was when George I. renounced the title of "King of France," formerly claimed by British sovereigns. The three Flour de Lys were then removed I from the British 'Shield.
