DEVASTATING STORM.
ENORMOUS DAMAGE DONE.
CROUPS SUFFER HEAVILY.

WELLINGTON - , Sunday. ' In connection with tlie devastating storm which was reported to the Prime Minister from the Cook Islands yesterday, additional advice lias been received by the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department from the superintendent of the Karotonga radio station. The message is as follows: —■ "Aitutaki reports ■ that the storm is slowly abating and the barometer is rising slowly, with a heavy westerly wind. Enormous damage lias been done to crops and a number of buildings have been unroofed and smashed. Mauke reports that the wind has changed front south-east to north-east, with high seas. "Great damage has been done to crops in Karotonga, but no estimate of the total destruction has yet been made, but it will be very heavy to crops. The barometer is at 29.40 in and is slowly rising, with an east-north-east wind. Very high seas are running."
