SPECIAL CARS FOR CHILDREN

Arrangements to cope with the heavy traffic during the holidays, and particularly on those days when the Duke of Gloucester will be in Auckland, have been finalised by the Auckland Transport Board.

On Monday, the day of the Duke's arrival", the ordinary tram service will run till 8 a.m., but then the services on all rout - will be augmented by extra ears run from all termini to bring the people to the city. No trams will run through Queen Street from 9.15 a.m. until after the arrival of the Duke at the Town Hall. After His -Royal Highness reaches the Town Hall trams will run through Queen Street between Customs Street East and West and Wellcsley Street East and West, but will not run through between Wellesley Street and Karangahapc Eoad.

From approximately !) a.m. cars from Meadow bank. Remuera, Mount Albert and AvOndalc will run to Pitt Street only, and a special service will be run between Newmarket and Stanley Street.

Trams from Victoria Avenue, Great South Road, Onehunga, Three Kings, Mount Roskill and Owairaka will run via Symonds Street and Anzac Avenue to the intersection of Customs Street Last and Queen Street, and trams from J'oint Chevalier, Westmerc, the Zoo, Richmond Road and Ponsonby will run via Pitt Street and Hobson Street to the intersection of Customs Street West and Queen Street. Heine Bay cars will run via College Hill and Hobson Street to Customs Street West.

On all these routes extra cars will be running between 9.15 a.m. and 9.45 a.m. There will be an augmented service on all routes during that afternoon and evening up till 10 p.m., and the last trams will leave the city for the various termini at the usual time, 11.30 p.m. On Christmas Day the ordinary Sunday service will obtain. Children's Day. On Thursday, December 27, Children's Day, from approximately 8 a.m. there will be an augmented service on- all routes, and special trams will be run from all termini for children taking part in the rally at the Domain. On these cars no adults other than teachers will be carried, and special fares on the inwards journey only will be conceded to the children. The fares will be one penny for one or two sections, and twopence for three or more sections.

On December 28, the day of the departure of His Royal Highness at 2 p.m., the service will be augmented from 11 a.m. Closing of Business Premises. As a result of a request by the Mayor, it was decided at a meeting of the Auckland Drapers, Clothiers and Boot Retailers' Association yesterday to close business premises on the morning of Thursday, December 27, during the children's rally, which will be held at the Domain, and to reopen at noon.
