BIG EATERS.
EIGHT-BOTTLE MAN.
PARIS, October 2,
Three of the four competitors for the title of "greatest eater," which was decided at the "Festival of the Stomach" at Eouen, declared themselves willing and anxious to join in another gargantuan battle. The competitors were:—
M. Charles Viennot (a vintner), aged 52, weight 20st, the winner; M. Eogo (a singer), aged 32, weight 19st; M. L'Oisclle (a waiter), aged 39, weight 10st; and the "Unknown Eater," aged 40, weight
20st. When the trenchermen mounted the platform the boards creaked and groaned under the strain. Then, amid applause, they set about this appetising menu: — 2 I-olb of brill, 2Mb of chicken, 221b of mutton with kidney beans, one cheese and apple tart (lots). The winner drank four bottles of cider, two of Alsatian wine and two of Burgundy. Prizes for the biggest stomach went to the "Unknown Eater," who put on 101b in weight during the meal.
