PHILIP HARGRAVE.

On Saturday night next, at His Majesty's Theatre, Messrs. J. and N. Tait will present Philip Hargrave, the youthful Australian genius of the piano, who captured enthusiastic praise and large followings in his recent Australian tour, in the first of a series of four recitals. That he made a deep impression in Australia may be judged by the following from the "Sydney Morning Herald": "Philip Hargrave's performances need not the slightest allowances to be made for them. The Finale of Beethoven's Sonata in C and the Paganini-Liszt Etude No. 2 were not only a technical triumph, but, in their way, exceedingly fine interpretations. One can think of very few adult pianists in Sydney who could play these two pieces with such bravura and such admirable polish. Even as one watched it seemed inconceivable that a child's hands should be showering out these perfect scales and these rugged, difficult passages in octaves The rhythm had the boldness, the intensely developed dynamic range, of a mature artist." Mr. J. Alexander Browne, well-known Melbourne baritone, will be the assisting artist in Auckland. Particulars regarding students' concessions and booking arrange-1 inents are advertised, 1
