GREEDY JACKAL.

FATAL OVER-EATING SEQUEL. CALCUTTA, July 4. Merely because a jackal gorged himself on groundnuts, live men have been killed and 115 injured, and an Indian village is in a state of terror. Last season most of the groundnut crop was not gathered, and the jackal which over-ate became mad and bit a bull. The bull died and other jackals fed on the carcase. They, too, became mad and invaded the village of Mominabad. After such loss of life, the villagers dare not leave their homes now except in armed parties.
