QUALITY CATTLE IN DEMAND.
GOOD YARDING OF PIGS.
There was an average yarding of beef and a better yarding of pigs than last week at the Westfield fat stock Bales to-day. There was keen attention on the part of buyers. Good prices were given for the best animals, one steer bringing £9 15/. Range of Prices. On the average, prices for beef realised last week were well maintained. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day we penned fat cattle to the number of 191 head, as against 207 at last Wednesday's market, the yarding to-day comprising 85 steers and 106 cows and heifers. The.quality was first class. There was a keen demand and last week's values were fully sustained and in odd cases exceeded. Extra choice ox sold to 22/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 19/ to 21/; secondary and plain, 17/ to 18/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/ to 20/; secondary, 10/ to 16/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £9 to £9 15/, for steers from Mr. H. E. Reed, Waerenga; heavy, £8 to £8 17/6; lighter, £6 15/ to £7 17/6; light, £5 15/ to £6 12/6; small and unfinished, £3 15/ to £5 12/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £6 to £6 10/; heavy, £5 to £5 17/6; lighter. £3 10/ to £4 17/; others, £1' 15/ to £3 12/. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day we yarded 198 bead of beef, comprising 26 steers and 172 cows and heifers, against 172 head last week. The qualitywas again first-class and, selling under a steady demand, values ruled very firm at late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 22/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 18/ to 21/; secondary and plain, 15/ to 17/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/ to 20/; secondary, 12/ to 16/. Extra heavy prims steers ranged in price from £9 to £9 7/6; heavv, £8 7/6 to £8 17/6r lighter, £7 to £8 5/; light, £6 to £6 17/6; small and unfinished, £4 5/ to £5 17/6. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly' Westfield fat stock market held to-day we yarded beef in increased _ numbers. There was a ready demand, with values about the same as last week's. Extra choice ox sold to 22/ per JtOOlb; choice and prime, 18/ to 21/; secondary and plain, 14/ to 17/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/ to 21/; secondary, 13/ to 16/.
