THE WINNER.

(Sent in by Zelda Johnston, Bos 3, Kaitaia; age 14.)

It is told of a certain church dignitary that he once discovered some small boys seated iii'a ring round a'little dog, in a quiet corner of a field. "What are you little boys doing?" he inquired. "We're bavin' a competishun," said an urchin. "Whoever tells the biggest lie wins this 'ere dog." The cleric thought to improve the occasion, and began: "When I was a little boy I never told untruths—" But ho was interrupted by a voice which cried, "Give the gent, the dog, Alf." ■:.:
