ISOLATION.
TOWNS IN NORTH. PLIGHT OF WHANGAREI. SERVICES DISLOCATED. (By Telegraph.—Oivn Correspondent.) WH A X GAR EI, this day. Seldom has the North experienced such a dislocation of transport communication as that which came yesterday is a sequel to Monday nlgrit's storm. It was impossible to leave Whangarei by road, and nil other Northern centrc-; were similarly affected. The train could not get through from Auckland — an almost unprecedented occurrence — and it was found necessary to recall the down express from Wellsford and to run her north as a special late last evening. All mails were disorganised. Reports this morning were to tlu effect that rain was still falling it Way by and Lower Kaipara. The Coronation did not leave Auckland laist night, the torrential rain making it unsafe to lift the hatches for loading. She delayed her departure until this morning and will arrive here about midnight. The rain eased last night, and the fall for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. was only l.OSin, making a. total (if 3.69 in for two days. Thk morning blue sky appeared. Many roads still cannot be negotiated. A route is now available from Whangarei through Maungaturoto Wellsford, Port Albert to Kaukapakapa, and then across to Silverdale. The slips in the Dome Valley are still holdinfr up traffic, but will probably be cleared by to-morrow morning. There are 12 slips in the Waipu Gorge which require care. Traffic is held up on Taylor's Flat between Whangarei and Dargaville, but the Houtn Road is open. There arc ISin of water across the road at Kawakawa, but traffic on that route is held up at Wliakapara. and it is doubtful whether cars will get through this afternoon. The Kaitaia Road, via Mar.gamukaRangialiua Road, is clear.
