THIRD PARTY?
DEFENCE COUNSEL'S THEORY. QUARREL IN HOME SUGGESTED. ADDRESS TO JURY CONTINUES. In the course of his address to the jury this morning in defence of William AJfred Bayly, charged with double murder, senior counsel for the defence, Mr. E. H. Northcroft, advanced the theory that on the evening of the tragedy at the Lakey homestead, a third party, other than accused, was present. Many points were traversed by counsel this morning, and many alternative theories to the Crown's suggestions were put forward. It is difficult to determine when Mr. Northcroft will conclude his address, but judging from the ground traversed this morning, it seems unlikely that he will conclude until latii* this afternoon at the earliest. No definite announcement has been made yet as to whether the jury will again visit Ruawaro, but it appears likely that they will do so as soon as defence counsel's address is completed.
