AUCKLAND'S SUPPORT.
MEN'S POINT OF VIEW. Full confidence in the executive of the Wellington Federated Cooks and Stewards' Union was expressed .in a motion passed at a meeting of the Aiickland branch of the union yesterday. Tliey endorsed the southern union's attempt to ,sccure : a conference with the shipowners concerned early in July to discuss the restoration of the wages cut imposed three years ago. Mr. W. A. Fox, the secretary of the Auckland union, stated this morning that the men would plead for a restoration of cuts for a year at least 011 trial. He thought that a more equitable basis for wages and tax would .be to have the 10 per cent added, to the present wages and have an additional-5 per cent taken off in order that relief and 'sustenance men could receive a. better living. - -; There is no indication at present as to whether the points in dispute will be e ettled before a call is made for a crew for the Union Company's Marama, which is to recommission at Auckland next week. Other vessels expected at' Auckland within; the next few .days .are-the Waikawa, from Newcastle, the Waipahi, from Su\;a, and the Karetu, from liarotonga. ;.v ;■ The Royal Mail liners Niagara, .and Aorangi carry crews' signed under Australian articles "and should not be affected in any way.
