AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB.

THE ANNUAL REPORT. The report and balance-sheet of the Avondule Jockey Club, to be presented at the annual meeting on Tuesday, July 3, states that the past year was hardly as successful as anticipated. The uncertainty regarding the dates in the spring, added to -the unfavourable weather, was ail against that fixture, and only a small profit was shown. In the autumn things were much better, although they were unfortunate in missing the rebate in Government taxation, tne date for which expired just before the meeting. Added to this the stakes were increased £511. A reference to the balance-sheet would show that the finances of the club were satisfactory, the assets far exceeding the liabilities. As a result of the season's workings £450 had been written oft' for depreciation, leaving £13 0/5 to be carried forward to capital account. During the four days' racing £5847 was given away in stakes, an increase of £511 on the previous year, and over the amount required by the Rules of Racing. The course and tracks were in first-class order, and were a valuable asset to the club. The club's membership was still good, but during the year it lost through death two valuable members in Messrs. Chas. Adams and Robt. Burns, and the committee felt cure that members would join with them in extending to their relatives their sincere and deepest sympathy. Messrs. Donald McLeod and A. Davis were the only nominees for the positions of president and vice-president, respectively, and would be duly declared elected. For the committee eight candidates, Messrs. <T. Archibald, J. C. Beale, P. J. Delany, G. McCarthy and J. E. Wells (retiring members), and Messrs. F. Coe, A. G. Menzies and A. J. Pearce had been nominated for the five seats, and an election would be necessary.
