VICTORIA LEAGUE.
WELCOME TO VISITORS. To welcome overseas visitors and new members of the Victoria -League, a reception was held in the league rooms yesterday afternoon. Although the rain was heavy and incessant, there was a good attendance, and the rooms were prettily decorated with orange, golden and crimson flowers. The president, Miss Mowbray, welcomed the guests. She said that great pleasure was always felt in the entertaining of friends from overseas, and referred to the ever-increasing membership of the league throughout the Empire. She had pleasure in wishing Mrs. SI. Petrie, who is leaving for England shortly, a pleasant voyage. A display of war souvenirs was shown by Mrs. E. L. Fraser, collected during her nine years of work for the Huntly Patriotic Society. These included gas masks, a "tank" mask, bayonets, swords, bombs, all of which brought home to the observer the horrors of modern warfare. An enjoyable musical programme was given, including songs by Mrs. Humphrey Gordon and Mrs. Price, and a recitation by Miss Peggy Gruickshank. Miss Tilly Kountree was the accompanist. Afternoon tea was provided by the committee, the hostesses being Mesdames L. S. Rickerby, J. B. Macfarlane, W. Somers, C. Keeble, Roy Thomson, Misses Fen ton, F. Murray, D. Slater, K. Aickin and Ovens.
