"FOUGHT ALL THE WAY."

DRUNK MAN IN TAXI. A french polisher, Benjamin Thompson, aged 41, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to charges of being disorderly while drunk in Queen Street, and of wilfully damaging a police helmet. Sub-Inspector Edwards said that Thompson was making a noise and shouting in Queen Street at 9.25 last evening, and when advised by a constable to go home he wanted to fight. He was put into a taxi, and fought all the way to the station, knocking off the constable's, helmet and jumping on it. It was evident from his "list" that when accused took drink he became aggressive. Thompson eaid that lie had been in a relief camp for some months, and when he came to town he had had some drink. Although unfit, he had volunteered to go back to camp. A fine of £1, in default three days' imprisonment, was imposed on the first charge, and on the second count Thompson was convicted and ordered to pay the damage, 8/0.
