WOODFULL FAILS. Australians Pass 600 in 385 Minutes. TAME DRAW IN SURREY GAME. '.United P.A.-Electric Telegraph—Copyright) . (Received 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 1. The cricket match Australia v. Surrey was continued at the Oval this morning. The weather conditions were ideal. When stumps were drawn yesterday the visitors, ill response to the county's first innings score of 47.5 runs for seven wickets declared, had made 400 runs for three wickets, McCabe (185) and Chipperfield (G) being not out. When play was resumed tLi=> morning McCabe and Chipperfield catinued to make runs. Cover used a .sew ball. McCabe hit two fours in succession. Chipperfield briskly assisted him until Cover skittled his stumps with a beautiful ball. Then came the disheartening failure of Woodfull, who was in only a few minutes. He failed to connect with a good out-swinger from Holmes and was well caught by Fender, a low right-hand catch at second slip. Five wickets were now down for 461. McCabe in trying to hit a six skied one from Garland-Wells and gave an easy catch to Fender. He had batted 345 minutes for his 240 and hit 29 fours. Probably it was the luckiest innings of his life, as he gave about eight chances. Bromley in attempting to hit a six off Fender was splendidly caught in the outfield by Gregory. He had hit one six and eight fours. Oldfield and Grimmett enjoyed themselves against the weary bowling until the luncheon interval, when the score was 591 for seven wickets. After a total of COO had been passed in 385 minutes Gover obtained two more succes«'HS, bowling Grimmett and getting O'Reii j caught behind the stumps. Oldfield played an excellent, forcing innings. The Australian side batted for 420 minutes. Two hours were left for play when Squires and Gregory commenced Surrey's second innings. With 44 up Grimmett trapped Squires. A spiritless match dragged on wearily. Gregory and Barling were sound against a lackadaisical attack. Brown, with some big hitting, enlivened the closing stages, in which Kippax and Bromley were given bowlingpractice. Scores:— SURREY. First innings.—Seven wickets (dec.) 475 Second Innings.
