TOO OLD AT 18?
WORKLESS YOUTHS. HUNDREDS IN WELLINGTON. WAGES SUBSIDY ADVOCATED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Following the discussion of a report that there were 250 Wellington youths between 18 and 20 years of age on the unemployment roll, and that it was practically impossible to find positions for them, as employers were disinclined to engage them while younger boys were available, the Wellington Employment Committee resolved:
"That the Government be requested to consider as a matter of urgency a recommendation that the employers of boys between the ages of 18 and 20 years, inclusive, bo granted a subsidy of 25 per cent on the weekly wages paid, the subsidy not to exceed 7/6 weekly, and to be restricted to primary and secondary industries or other productive work to be determined, and to bo granted only in the case of boys who have been unemployed for six months."
