COMFORTABLE PILLOWS

Soft pillows make a great difference to one's comfort in bed, and especially if one happens to be ill. Nurses shoujd never let their patients' pillows become uncomfortable When only one pillow is allowed,, it should be feather or downOiled and have a good-sized tick covering. A tightly stuffed pillow can be very uncomfortable. See that the pillow slip fits without strain, but also without being big enough to wrinkle under the patient. If the patient is allowed to turn on his side, place a medium-sized pillow in the small of his back. It will give support and relief from strain. When the patient must be propped up in bed, the nurse has to bo most particular how she arranges her patients' pillows. First, take away all pillows, and draw the undersheet and drawfilieet quite taut. Then shake up four or five pillows, a bolster, and a feather cot pillow. Begin your pile with two well-stuffed pillows placed one on the other. Then add two or three feather pillows, keeping the most comfortable ones for the top. If the patient is very weak, a second ]>erson must support him while you build the pile. Lift the patient against the finished pile and slip the cot pillow into the hollow of his pack. Wrap the bolster in a sheet and slip it under the patient's knees and thighs. Tie the sheet both sides where the bolster ends with strong bandage and sling it tightly to the head-rail of fjio bed. This will keep the natient from slipping.
