BUILDING IN CITY.
STEADY INCREASE SHOWN. Figures for the building permits issued by. the Auckland City Council for May, £44,19!), prove that building in the city is definitely on the up-grade. The total since the beginning of the year for five months is £243,100, which is only £30,000 short of that for, the whole of last year, and nearly £12,000 more: than -the figure for 1931. The number of permits for the month is 162 while' is the' largest monthly total since August, 1931. The largest item on the May list is the work being done by the council in modernising the Victoria Arcade, while two other considerable items were two private houses one of which is the most costly erected in Auckland for some years.
