RESIGNATION OF BISHOP,

XELSOX, Wednesday.
With the resignation of Bishop Sadlier, the Cawthron Trust Board loses the last of the original trustees. In his reply at, a farewell tendered by the boani and staff of Cawthron Institute, Bishop Sadlier recalled that the estate had been most difficult to realise. The greater part was mortgages. Mr. Cawthron had not kept books according to modern practice, and his business letters .were written 011 the backs of envelopes.. He recalled that the trustees were faced with the realisation of the estate, and then had to determine what kind of all institute should be founded. Mr. Cawthron Hftd said a technical school, institute and museum, The trustees put a plan before flic Court, which approved most things except scholarships. The trustees had felt that the institute should bo as close as possible to original research' into the problems of agricultural pursuits in New Zealand. The constitution of the board should be very carefully preserved, because every new man who came in Jiad a tremendous lot to learn. Bishop Sadlier returned thanks for the presentation of a bound volume of views of the institute's work. It would bring before him so many dreams, memories of battles, controversies and hard work in fellowship round tile table. The present staff were worthy successors of those who began. He wished the greatest possible success to the institute, so that its work would stand out in the history of science as one of the most useful to the man 011 the land and the public generally.
