QUEER FISH ARRIVE.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "'Star.") DUXEDIN, this day. Tlje Wainui arrived yesterday with an unusual consignment of amphibians from Melbourne for a Dunedin retail fish shop. These interesting animals, known as newts, are better known in England, where they are found in nearly every slow-running stream or drain. When confined to a miniature aquarium the amphibians make an interesting exhibit, being quite harmless. The only difficulty is that they often leave their watery home, and may be found crawling over tables and furniture, to tlie consternation of those who do not understand them. The highly coloured, reddish under surface is in striking contrast with the sombre brown of tha back and sides.
