SEED MARKETS.
COCKSFOOT SCARCE.
Of the Southern seed markets the "Otago Daily Times" says: —
The seed markets continue in a most difficult position. Treshing has been delayed, hnd there is not nearly the same quantity of ryegrass offering as in previous years. Farmers have high ideas of value, and merchants are buying few lines. The present value of good ryegrass is from 3/ to 3/G per bushel, on trucks, but in many cases farmers are asking 4/. The cocksfoot market is very linn. The Akaroa crop has turned out less than was anticipated, and it is even now reported as the lowest on record. The returns would indicate that there will not be sufficient cocksfoot seed for the requirements of the Dominion this year. The Canterbury Plains crop is practically a failure, the seed not maturing on account of being frosted. Frost has also affected the dogs tail crop, and few lines are on offer from the southern districts.
