MARKET OPENS STRONGLY,

RISE IN N.Z. BREWERIES,

There was a healthy tone in the market at the opening for the week, and several rises in values were made.

Nov Zealand Breweries, reflecting the upward movement in the South at the end of last week, advanced sharply, and more wore wanted at only 2d below the new price, with none available. Colonial Sugars also gained in strength and later bids showed a margin of only 10/ around the morning's new price. Auckland Gas continued firm. In the banking section buyers of Commercials moved up to 18/5 and sellers were 4d higher. New Zealands were available at £2 10/, and there were buyers at only 2d lower. Activity in Government securities centred round the 3% per cent stocks. There was little offering in either bonds or stocks after the sales. Still Busy at Noon. Business continued brisk and a good list of sales was put through at the noon call. Commercial Banks advanced by Id to 18/6 and more were wanted at that price. Sellers of Bank of New Zealands moved up to £2 10/6, after sales at £2 10/. South British and Standard Insurance shared the business in the insurance section.
