WANGANUI HORSES.

MIDIAX AMISS. W. RAYNER'S TEAM FOR TRENTHAM (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") WANGANUI, Friday. W. Rayner will leave for Trentham next Thursday with Pomp, Spiral and Linoleum. The lastnamed figures in the sale list at Trentham. Though he has done no good so far, his trainer holds the opinion that the Liraond gelding is likely to prove good later on over a distance. Since returning from Ellerslie Pomp and Spiral have not been asked to do much fast work, except an occasional sprint over two or three furlongs. They] have both freshened up nicely after their racing in the north, and with a pipe-opener or two should be in splendid order for their Trentham engagements. Spiral was galloped on while running in the Grtat Northern Derby and hed a leg cut about a bit, but it is now all right again.'' The tfiree-year-old .son of Limond is hitting out freely, and his trainer expects him to run a'big race in the Wellington Cup, in which A. JEL Eaatwo.od will have the mount on the colt.

Pomp looks as well as ever he did and he should strip a very fit horse in the Telegraph Handicap, in which he must be hard to beat if ridden to , the best advantage. So far no definite arrangement has been made as to his rider.

Burnish was none the worse for her racing at Ellerslie, but in view of. the fact that she had three races there after a somewhat hurried preparation, it was thought advisable to let her take things easily in the meantime. The Pombal filly will make her next appearance at the "Wanganui autumn meeting. Canopy, the two-year-old filly by Limond —Pennon, has thrown off the lameness which, prevented her being seen out at Woodville and Ellerslie. She is now in work again, but has put on a good deal of condition, and she will not race until the Wanganui meeting comes round. This filly is likely to prove very speedy. W. H. Dwyer has turned Midian out, the Weatliervane colt having gone amiss again. Had he kept sound Midian must have won some good races, as there is no doubt he had plenty of pace and is bred to stay. Royal Routine is doing good work, and if .taken to Trentham should run well in his engagements. ■ Knollmere did not run up to expectations during the holidays, but if he takes on the high-weight events at Trentham he should pick lip some money. It- is- probable that W. Rayner will shortly take.in hand two or three of Mr. G.'M'. Currie's youngsters, including a colt by Posterity out of Episode. Mr. L. G. Paul has again had to spell All Supreme,' that gelding having gone amiss,.: which is very bad luck for his owner-trainer, as the son of Chief Ruler had only to keep , sound to win some good races. ,
