HOLLYWOOD IN PERSON.
LATEST STYLES. Marion Davies is one of the greatest enthusiasts about the new cocktail suit. This new type gown is in formal floor length. If often has rich fur touches, and is worn with the new cocktail hat which makes it good for late afternoon and informal evenings. In her latest picture, she wore one of the new suits. It is in sheer black wool —an entirely new fabric for the formal ensemble. Its princesse skirt is in floor length, with long-sleeved surpHce jacket, fastened with two decorati\*e buttons. Tho most unusual touch is a black sealskin cape pleated over each shoulder, hanging loose over the right sleeves to tho hipline. A fur cravat of white ermine tics in a bow at the high neckline. The new high beret, with square crown, accented with black ostrich top 6 off the cocktail suit. And long white gloves add to the formality. , Shimmering Gowns. Glittering evening gowns are a rage in tho pictures now being made. Latest of these is the all-crystal bugle gown worn by Miriam Hopkins. This is one of the most exquisite of Travis Banton's creations, in simplicity of line and shimmering quality. It is cut somewhat low in front, with tho beaded fabric turned so as to give a delightful surplice line over tho bust. The material, cut on the bias and cleverly cut over the hips, gives the body an excellent line and slenderness not often achieved in such fabrics. Lames, satins, beaded materials and all fabrics with high sheen or sequin effect, tend to make the wearer appear heavy. It is a triumph of the designer's art when such things as this and the all gold bead gown worn by Carole Lombard, are so contrived as to make the wearers appear slim as willow wands. Black and White. Irene Bentley wears ivory white taffeta with black velvet pumps and black velvet jacket and gloves when dancing of evenings at the Beyerly Wilshire. Francesca Bragiotti Lodge's blonde beauty is accentuated by the all black taffeta gown she wears for dinners with huge velvet wings flying out straight from the shoulder. She has one of the slimmest figures in the colony, and her dancing and horseback riding permit her to be free of the dieting which is almost a Hollywood mania. Marlene Dietrich brought back black patent leather pumps, with high spiked red enamel heels, a% a European contribution to her Hollywood wardrobe. They accentuate the exquisite legs which have been La Dietrich's trademark. With them she invariably wears simple dresses of unrelieved black. Lilian Harvey has the cutest taffeta berets, made to match the new cat-bow scarves, which everyone is wearing. With simple dresses of sheer navy wool or black wool —Lilian Harvey calls them "high-school frocks," and they are cut in the manner of the slick little gowns which girls of fifteen to eighteen affect. If you are Lilian Harvey's silhouette these little slic.k dresses, topped by berets and scarves of bright Angora or plaid taffeta., wi]J give you a variety of changes for a minimum of money. But nnless you have that adolescent outline, keep to the more mature type of frock.
