THE STATE OF VICTORIA AVENUE.
From time to time correspondents have been complaining through your columns of the state of repair of the above road. Readers have no doubt been appalled by the conditions described, which suggest something akin to backblocks conditions. To-day I had occasion to traverse the full length of the avenue, and was amazed to find that the surface was quite good. The statements of correspondents relative to dangers of broken springs, etc., are nothing short of gross exaggerations. The Auckland city and suburban streets are monuments to the efficiency of the councillors and employees of the various controlling bodies, and Victoria Avenue is certainly no exception. I trust that the city councillors will not be harried iuto spending good money by the outbursts of local residents, who arc not satisfied with a good bitumen road to their doors. SIX-CYLINDER.
