WIFE'S PLOT.
SCHEME TO GET MONEY. SAID HUSBAND WAS DEAD. "POOR DEAR PASSED AWAY." A woman's plot to get money by telling her husband's family that he was dead and that she could not afford to pay for his funeral was exposed at Marylebouc Police Court. Maud Tu 11, aged 52, of Tidy Street, Brighton, was sentenced to four months' hard labour for stealing jewellery from a house in St. John's Wood, JS'.W., where she was employed. Her husband, Albert Tull, aged 04, who was charged with her, was acquitted when it wat» pleaded that lie was completely dominated by his wife, and only assisted her because he feared "she might hit him." Detective Euruey said that Mrs. Tull wanted to have taken into consideration an attempt in -February this year to obtain £(i 10/ from her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rebecca Munt, of Houiton (Devon) by false pretences. Sho wrote to Mrs. Munt: '"Just a line to let you know that your poor brother Albert passed away at 4 o'clock to-day. He has been ill for some time and has not done any work for two years, and my money only just pays the rent. "I lie shocking part is, I had to let our insurance run out last Christmas, so I don't know what I shall do to bury him. 1 don't want the poor dear to bo under the parish, so will you please try to send me wJiat you can spare to help me in this shocking trouble? "I have been to a clieap undertaker's, and they do it all for £G 10/. —Your affectionate Sister-in-law." Mrs. Munt was suspicious, said the detective, and found from the registrar of births and deaths that her brother had not been buried, and was, in fact, living with his wife.
