YACHTSMAN DROWNED.
CAPSIZE IN GKEY BIVEK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) GREYMOUTH, Monday. A single man, Mr. Ronald Bouten Messenger, aged 33 years, formerly an able seaman on the steamer Opihi, who had been residing with his widowed mother at Greymouth, was accidentally drowned this afternoon when the yacht he was sailing with Mr. James Rhodes, aged 42, a married man with four children, was swamped in the Grey River. The yacht turned over twice and Mr. Messenger made for the shore, but sud-de-nly sank, although a powerful swimmer. Mr. Rhodes suffered cramp, but clung to the boat until rescued a few yards from the river bar by two young- boys in a flat-bottomed boat equipped only with a paddle. The body of Mr. Messenger has not been recovered.
