EFFECT OF WPORT QUOTA. NEW ZEALAND'S OPPORTUNITY. 9 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. In an address to the Farmers' Union Mr. David Jones, chairman of the Meat Board, gave figures showing the effect of the quota system on Argentine exports to Britain. For the year ended March, 1932', mutton and lamb totalled 5,972,405 carcases. The reduction for the present calendar year is 1,000.1GG carcases, and next year it will be 2,013,002 carcases. Beef will be reduced from 87,179 quarters by 29,244 quarters.
United Kingdom imports of foreign bacon last year totalled 11,405,932cwt and next year will be reduced by 4,0!)9,770cwt.
Mr. Jones said the Dominion pork and bacon industry was increasing remarkably. Killings in the first six weeks of last season were 13,000, and for tlie same period of this year SI,OOO.
