BIBLE INTERPRETATION.
At the recent Methodist Synod Dr. Ranston said that sceptical anti-super-naturaliem found no foothold in the college. The Bible was studied in the ]jo-lit" of a modern reverent scholarship true to Christian essentials, and the Revised Version was mainly used. . The idea that this version, or the Authorised Version, or any other English version, was word for word inspired was impossible to anyone with _ the slightest knowledge of_ the original languages or the existing manuscripts. The Scripture writers recorded Oodwrought experiences, but mechanical theories of inspiration often led. thoughtful people to scepticism.- The college taught that revelation was progressive in the Bible records. In the light of this, the main moral difficulties associated with the Uhl 'i'co lament largely disappeared.
