SENT FOR TRIAL.

FORMER POLICE CHIEF. V On 35 charges of alleged fraudulent conversion, Superintendent William -Jones, forifter Deputy-Chief Constable of Glamorgan, was committed for trial by' the Bridgend magistrates. There were 21 charges involving £816, the money of ™®, Glamorgan Police Athletic Club," and It involving £2915. Mr. Temple Morris, M.P., prosecuting, said it was difficult to find words which would adequately describe Jones' treachery and wickedness with regard to these charges. A lliore flagrant breach of trust could not be imagined. Jones was a friend of Henry George Alldridge, who made a will making Jones one of his executors. Before Mr. Alldridge's death . another executor died and Jones became sole executor. Mr. Alldridge left two daughters and a son aged 14, and he bequeathed the whole of his property to them. The wickedness of these charges could be appreciated, said Mr. Morris, when it was said that within 11 days of obtaining probate Jones helped himself to iiWi, with which he bought himself a bungalow. Other money he put in his own pocket. He also transferred various sums of money from the estate funds into his own banking account by telling the bank manager lies. Certain charges alleged that he drew and £158 out of the estate funds to repay loans after writs had been issued ana judgment obtained. Superintendent William Mac Donald said that when charged Jones replied: I done know anything about it." Mr. R ,c Roberts, on Jones' behalf, formally pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence. Bail was not applied for.
