NEW PARNELL SCHOOL.

THE OFFICIAL OPENING. It is expected that the official opening of the new Parnell School, situated at the corner of St. Stephen's Avenue and Gladstone Road, will take place shortly. The Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, has accepted the invitation of the school committee, but the actual date will depend on the Minister's Parliamentary duties. The school has been in use since May 22, It is expected that there will be a large gathering of former teachers and scholars and others interested, some of whom are expected from considerable distances. One former teacher, now living in retirement, has expressed a wish that he should have a reunion with hi 3 former pupils about the time of the official opening ceremony. It is thought that there may be others who would like to arrange a similar function, and, to give all interested an opportunity, a meeting is to be held in the new school on October 30. All former teachers and scholars are invited to this meeting. At present the school and grounds present a very fine appearance. The many oaks, some of which were planted by Bishop Selwyn, together with other trees, are all showing signs of spring. The stone wall, which is being built on the St. Stephen's Avenue and Gladstone Road frontages, is nearing completion. Behind the school, and seen from all sides, there is a playing area which 19 laid out in four hard tennis courts. This area is also used for folk dancing and drill, and during the winter months it will make an ideal basketball ground. The large piece of ground in front_ or tfie school, which will b* the playing area for the boys and which has had to ha excavated and levelled, is almost ready for a sowing of grass. This will make a very fine playing field wben complete^
