TWIN YACHTS.
BUILT IN BACK YARD. AUCKLAND 1 YOUTH'S INDUSTRY RACING THIS SEASON. In an unusual setting—a back yard, off Kowhai Street, at Kingsland, two eighteen-foot yachts lie side by side, and will soon be taken to the harbour for launching. They were built by a young Auckland lad, Mr. R. F. Wright, in his spare time. He has full-time
work in a cabinetmaking factory, attends the Seddon Memorial College night classes, and is assistant scou.tcr for the Hawke troop of sea scouts. Without even- a shed to work in or any proper tools, Mr. Wright has managed to turn out a couple of V class yachts that would not disgrace a professional boatbuilder. It is expected that the boats will figure prominently in the coming season's regattas. With an over-all length of 18ft and a beam of 7ft, and a 34ft 6in mast, the boats are identical. They will be Marconi rigged, and Mr. Wright hopes to have them launched early in December. One of the boats is to be sailed by Mr. Wright's friend, Mr. F. Henry. The pair formerly owned the Suzette, a T class yacht, but decided that it would be more fun to sail boats that they had made themselves.
