The landing stage at Cape Maria Van Diemen lighthouse, which can only be used in calm weather, and from where the Government steamer Matai brought the body of Mrs. Newson to Auckland. Mrs. Newson, wife of one of the keepers, and Mr. F. Gage, an assistant keeper, lost their lives on Saturday when they were washed off the rocks while fishing.
