GISBORNE RAILWAY.
COST OF CONSTRUCTION. ENGAGEMENT OF EXPERT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. Active steps are now being taken to eonrpile detailed information regarding the cost of construction and tlie prospects of revenue on completion of the railway from Napier to Gisborne, in order that the fullest data may be available for any private concern which may contemplate the acquisition of the line under the special legislation enacted last session. An expert has been engaged to prepare figures relating to the area to be served and the production of the district, particularly in comparison with other districts already served by railways. While the district engineer of the Public Works Department has been occupied for some time in making detailed estimates of the cost of completing the line, and subsequently operating it, those concerned expect that the sum of £500 will bo required to cover the cost of these investigations, and the chairman of the committee has circularised local bodies and other organisations inviting subscriptions toward* the cost, _~-. — - <
