PRODUCTION OF Gt)LD. INCREASED QUANTITIES WON. (Ey Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The increasing importance of gold production in the mining industry is demonstrated in the Mines Statement presented ito Parliament. i Last year the Dominion's mineral production was valued at £2,115,000. At the- top was coal with £1,842,000, and gold caino next with £1,019,814, representing an increase in quantity of 104,275 ounces —the greatest recorded since 1918. Dividends paid by registered gold and silver mining companies increased by £81,138 to a total of £187,095, the greatest contributor being quartz mines, with £177,230. Tlio improved interest in gold mining was maintained, 1982 licenses for mining privileges having been granted. Unemployment relief was also facilitated by this development, 210 men being given work through the Mine 3 Department subsidy, and 2500 being assisted under tho Unemployment Board's prospecting schemes, at a cost of £82,000.
