SHIPOWNER'S ESTATE.
Bequest to New Zealand Early
Settler.
NEARLY £100,000,
LONDON, October IG.
The late Mr. Andrew Gibson, a Liverpool shipowner, has left an estate valued at £009,013.
Included in» the bequests is one of approximately £100,000 to his cousin, Mr. John Anderson, of Cliristchurch.
A Cliristchurch Press Association message states that when the above cable message was referred to Mr. John Anderson he said that by the last English mail he had received a letter from his cousin's lawyers informing him that he was a beneficiary under his cousin's will, and that he would share in the residue of the estate. The letter from the lawyers stated also that Mr. Anderson's share on realisation would amount to a eunx considerably less than that mentioned in the cable. Mr. Anderson, who is 83 years old, and was born in Edinburgh, is one of the survivors of the band of Canterbury Pilgrims who arrived by the first four ships, coming in the ship Sir George Seymour with his parents in 1850, the year he was born. For many years Mr. Anderson was head of the well-known engineering firm of Andersons, Ltd., which his father developed.
Mr. Anderson has been associated with many commercial and social organisations in Chrietehurch. For many years he was a director o£ the Christchurch Press Company, and of the New Zealand Shipping Company. He is an honorary life member of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, a past-president of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, a former member of Canterbury College board of governors, and on two occasions has served as member of the City Council.
