EQUIPOISE WINS.

HAWTHORNE GOLD CUP. CHAMPION AMERICAN HORSE. (Received 10 a.m.) CHICAGO, August 25. Equipoise won the Hawthorne Gold Cup of 25,000 dollars by two lengths from Gallant Sir, with Mr. Khayyam third. Writing from San Francisco on August 2, our correspondent stated _ that it was definitely announced that Winooka would go East to meet Equipoise at Belmont Park. Equipoise was regarded in the United States as the greatest horse in the world. M. Poison, the trainer of Winooka did not underrate Equipoise, but he would guarantee that if Winooka got back to liis Australian form those who thought it would be just a question of how far Equipoise would win by would get a surprise. Winooka would need another race to bring him to his best before "meeting Equipoise. Mr Rufe Taylor, manager of Winooka, said that as soon as Winooka was ready his party would put up 10,000 dollars that Winooka would beat Equipoise.
