RETURNS FOR FOUR WEEKS.

LARGER PROFIT RECORDED.

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

Supplementing the statement winch was made by the chairman of the Kailway Board on August 11 there has now been published the abstract of the railway working account for the fourweekly period ended July 22. There was an improvement of more than £15,500, compared with the corresponding period last year, a working profit of £20,034 compared with one of £4407. The gross revenue was £412,435, which was £11,910 more than a year a"o, and expenses were reduced by £3057 to £392,401. The operating account for the North Island lines shows a "revenue of £212,914, an increase of £11,299, and expenses totalling £208,077, a reduction of £7467. There was a profit of £4237, compared with a loss of £14,529 last year. The receipts of the South Island railways were £149,797, an increase of £2787, and expenses were £150,601, an increase of £2439. There was a working loss of £GBO4, compared with £7152 last year. TL'c balance of miscellaneous revenue was £22,601, ae against £26,148 in 1932. The revenue was £49,724 and the expenditure £27,123. For the period from April 1 to July 22 the net revenue was £232,082, compared with £190,720 last year. The gross revenue was £1,807,057, a decline of £9428. The expenditure was £1,575,575, a reduction of £44,790. Returns of net railway revenue for four-weekly periods over a period of three years are as follow. — Period to 1933. 1932. 1931.
