LEYS INSTITUTE DEBATES.

Teams representing the Leys Institute and the Good Shepherd Debuting Circle at the Leys Institute last evening debated the subject "That it is in New Zealand's Interests to Develop its Secondary Industries." The visiting team, who took the affirmative, consisted oE Messrs. T. Butler. C. Sneddon and J. Solich. The Institute was represented by Messrs. J. Mason. A. Clarke and P. J. Luxford. The judge, Mr. G. Biillen, awarded the decision to the Leys Institute by 265 points to 247.

Next week a debate in connection with the Athenaeum Cup tournament will be hold at the Institute between the W.E.A. and the Tamariki Debating Society. The subject under discussion will be "That the Abolition of Slavery was Due to Economic Rather than Moral Causes."
