MARRIAGE ANNULLED.
FIRST WIFE STILL ALIVE. HUSBAND GRANTED DECREE. An unusual application was made to t'.ie Supreme Court this morning when Robert John Terry, dietitian (Mr. Bcckerleg) applied for a decree annulling his marriage with Helen Irene Haden (otherwise Terry). The respondent (Mr. \V. Schramm) did not oppose the application, but applied for maintenance. r ;•: Mr. Beckerleg explained that in ISBS, i:i England, Terry married Maragrine Hunter. 7n 1913, in Tasmania, the wife refused to remain longer, and returned ta. England. Not having heard from her for eight years Terry, who had come to New, Zealand, applied for permission to r-arry Helen Irene Haden, the respondent, rnd they were told by the registrar of ).:?.rriages at Christchurch, that they c'on'd marry. . They were married in <•' inch. Subsequently it came to t"'s' knowledge of Terry that his first v.ife in England was still alive, and he row applied to have his second marriage annulled.
. A clerk in the Magistrate's Court produced a record showing that in March of this year, an order for 25/ a week maintenance in favour, of his. wife. in England .had. been , confirmed against' Verny. .'•'■•' ■ '"' .",•■.-,'■'•".*■',-.. .-. •.' ;'.;. i".
Petitioner gave evidence,;:'and. when, 3.1]-. Schramm was cross-examining him Mr.. Justice Herdinan said, ': VAre you: opposing the petition?"
