PROSPERITY WEEK ECHO. "WRONG IN PRINCIPLE." Adverse criticism of the action of supporters , of a candidate in the recent Prosperity Week queen contest and traffic inspectors working together when an inspection of motor licenses was made on the Sunday before last was voiced at this morning's meeting of the Manukau County Council.
"I think the thing was absolutely wrong in principle," declared the chairman, Mr. F. M. Waters, in explaining that in the county permission for the collectors to work with the inspectors had been refused. "It was like holding a pistol to a person's head," he said.
A member mentioned that it had been rumoured that motor drivers who were unable to produce their licenses had been let go if they contributed to the collection boxes.
