PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD
Mr. H. E. McEntee presided at the regular meeting of the Papakura Town Board last evening.
Relief Worke.—ln reply to the boards proposal to employ a number of men on the sports area at Prince Edward Park, and a request from the Franklin County Council for a number of relief workers for the purpose of improving the Papa-kura-Hunua main highway, the Labour Department stated that it had been decided to transfer 25 men from Papakura to the Franklin County Council, to do the road work. About 50 men would be left to the Papakura Town Board, and they should be able to do effective work on the sports area..The chairman said he was disappointed that men were going to be taken to the county whether the Town Board liked it or not. The foreman reported that a gang had been started at levelling work at the park, and good progress was being made. Erosion. —Serious erosion of the banke at Chalky Point was brought to the notice of the board by the foreman, and the works committee were instructed to report on the possibility of protecting the cliff from further damage. The foreman suggested that it would probably be found that about two chains of breastwork of some sort would have to be constructed. Art Union Proceeds.—A cheque for £321, to be applied to the relief of distress, was received from the "Luck At Last" art union. The chairman said that the money had come at a very opportune time.
