TRACK GALLOPS.

TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE. PREPARING FOR SATURDAY. DEPUTY RULER IMPRESSES. Beautiful weather prevailed this morning for training at Ellcrslie, and, in view of the meeting of the Pakuranga, Hunt Club at Ellcrslie on Saturday, there was more galloping than usual. No. 1 grass was available, the going being good, though a little on the dead side. Severa.l useful efforts were recorded, the best being those of Kiltowyn, King March, Deputy liuler, and Hushing.

No. I Grass. Mahkill and the Siirveyor-To Moti gelding in G. Holland's stable were several lengths in front of Love Story after traversing six furlongs in 1.22 3-5, the lirst three being covered in 40 4-ss. The Surveyor gelding, who will be having his first race on Saturday, was slightly in front of Mahkill at the finish, and shaped nicely for a novice. Glenromuey was given an easy six furlongs, running the distance in, 1.28 3-5. This three-year-old is steadily improving, and will be well forward for the spring meetings. My Money and Gay Broney jumped off at the five-furlong post, running the first two in 275, and completing the gallop in 1.7 1-5. Both worked well, though My Money, on the outside, impressed most. Manawhenua and Aroha Mai, after going away slowly from the fivefurlong post, ran their last half mile in 5-1 l-ss. Aroha Mai displayed speed, but Manawhenua was holding her comfortably at the finish. Supreme Ruler was sent five furlongs, being assisted over the latter stages by Chief Emerald. He was timed to run the distance in 1.6 3-5. Dark Marble and Wee Pat beat Patutahi easily at the end of seven furlongs, which occupied 1.35 4-5, Wee Pat pleased most.

A good effort was registered over five furlongs by Deputy Euler, who beat Caliente by a couple of lengths, with Alpinus a similar distance away in 1.5 1-5. Deputy Ruler did his work in good style and Caliente was also stayinc on nicely at the finish. The Jellicoe Handicap candidates King March and Gay Cockade completed a round in 1.56. the last six furlongs taking 1.20 4-5, and the final half mile 53 4-ss. Gay Cockade was in front early, but King March, who was on the extreme outside all tho way, and covered a lot of extra ground, wa g less than a length away at the finish. Lord Val'did strong work over a round, running the distance in 2.22 2-5. He had no pace on till the last three furlongs, which he covered in 39 3-ss. United was easily beaten by Hushing at the end of six furlongs. They covered the first three in 40 2-os, and the full distance in 1.21 2-5, though Hushing could have done much better. From a standing start, and carrying a light boy, Kiltowyn ran his first three furlongs in 38 2-ss, and completed six furlongs in 1.18 2-5. He finished on well and should run a great race in tho Auckland Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. The hunters, Zane Grey, Ironic, Grant's Opal and General Lu, did strong work over a mile and a quarter, being timed to run the final round in 2.6. General Lu broke down alom? the back, and Zane Grey and Ironic were together some lengths in front of Grant's Opal at the finish. Ironic'pleased most. On the two-year-old track. Kelly (a geldinpr by Kilbroney—Joy Queen) and the Gay Shield—Lady Kerman colt, sprinted three furlongs in 27 3-ss. Sporting Song, Red Flame (a filly by Chief Ruler—Very Hot) and Tray Bit were in that order at the end of a similar task in 27 2-ss.
