WAIHI HOSPITAL. TROUBLE,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WAIHI, this day,
Trouble in connection with hospital matters assumed another phase on Thursday. As the result of no quorum being present at the last meeting of the Hospital Board, recipients of the usual sustenance were unable to obtain orders from the secretary on Thursday. The chairman, Colonel Jowsey, published a notice the same day that, owing to the absence from the meeting of three members, Mrs. Hughes and Messrs. Copstake, and Cooper, the hospital and relief accounts eculd rot be passed. Later in the day.it was pointed out that several cases of ■ acute ■ distress existed and that assistance, was urgently necessary to tide the people, over Easter. Subsequently a subscription list was circulated in the town and a substantial amount was collected. The chairman, in an interview, said he would, in the course of a few days, take upon himself the responsibility of issuing sustenance orders, but in the meantime he had advised the recipients to . wait . upon .the three absentee members. The usual fortnightly payment of the hospital staff salaries and wages prior to Easter was not made on Thursday. The chairman's attitude is that the members' who absented themselves from the, last meeting are solely responsible.
