EMPIRE TOBACCO GAINS.

According to a trade report Empire tobacco sales in the British market have made huge strides in the past two or three years. That is a trade that formerly belonged almost exclusively to the United States, but a great change has been taking place. In the first 10 months of 1930 the United Kingdom purchased 133,309,1971b of unmanufactured tobacco from the United States and 31,611,1111b from Empire countries; in the same period of 1932 the quantity from the United States fell to 82,784,5971b, and that from Empire countries rose- to 42,266,9531b. In other words, two years ago the Empire total was less than one-quarter that of the United States; last year it was more than half.
