YOUNG AGITATOR.
RELIEF CAMP TROUBLE.
INCIDENT BEFORE GOVERNOR.

As a sequel to the trouble a t the relief workers' camp, near Horopito, Thomas Kelly, aged 28, was sentenced by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., to six months' imprisonment for using obscene language oil the Valley Road, Raetihi, on January 19. Kelly admitted that he was ofie of a party who demonstrated before the Governor-General during his visit to Raetihi.
The chief, witness was a well-known Wanganui Justice of the Peace, who stated that a secret vote was taken in the camp and Kelly gave a casting vote that witness and three others should leave the camp because they had refused to join the Unemployed Workers' Union. Kelly and a mate followed witness along, the road, using filthy language to him, and' he was forced to leave the camp. Kelly admitted that he was connected with the trouble that arose in Cuba Street, Wellington, in connection with the riots, when an inspector pulled him off a box while he was addressing a gathering of strikers.
When sentenced Kelly remarked: "This is. capitalistic justice, I suppose." The Magistrate: If you say another word I will impose a further sentence for contempt of court.
The magistrate added that certain facts were disclosed in the evidence which merited the attention of the Public Works Department. 9
