GIVEN LONG TERM.
LENIENCY ABUSED. WOMAN IN TROUBLE AGAIN. Clara Kennedy (40), a woman who successfully made a pica for leniency when she appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., last week, got into trouble again on Saturday. She was charged to-day with being disorderly while drunk in Karangahape Road, and also with being a rogue and vagabond, who habitually consorted with undesirables. "I took your advice when you gave mo a chance, and left for the country, but I came back on Saturday and had a few drinks," said the woman. "I'll go straight back to the country to-day if you give mo another chance. Don't be too hard on me, sir." "Last week you made a long appeal to me, and I listened to you and pave you a chance," said Mr. McKean. "You have a long list of previous convictions for thefts and all sorts of things. Now you are In trouble again. I told you last week that if you offended again I would give you the maximum. That's what I am going to do with you. A short term is no use to you."
The woman was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment.
